Every year, Pixar opens their doors to welcome starry-eyed undergraduate or recently graduated animators from across the globe to join them in creating magic.
Their summer internship accommodates 60-80 carefully chosen individuals and runs for 3 months, during which these special souls are exposed to the inner workings of one of the world’s leading animation studios based in California.
The animation interns are taken back to basics by being taught the 12 principles of animation all over again, with the assistance of Pixar’s own mentors and teachers. They are also given the opportunity to work alongside the Pixar employees and are allowed to contribute as full members of the animation team.
During lunch time, interns have the chance to mingle and network with the creme de la creme of the animation world in Pixar’s on-site cafe: cue every animation movie or character question you’ve ever had!
Over and above the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of writing “three month internship at Pixar Animation Studios” on your resumé, the interns are paid for their time at the studio too. Though I am uncertain of the amount, it will be in dollars, so who cares?
However, I have to add that Pixar is pretty picky about the individuals they hand this golden ticket to success to… They are looking for real talent and potential, because at the end of the internship, the opportunity to be employed by the studio is given to the sharpest tools in the intern-shed.
